Our Story

Family First Resource Centre didn’t appear overnight—it grew out of years of care, prayer, and a sense that more could be done.

For years, the team at the Grande Prairie Pregnancy Care Centre supported families across northern Alberta, often extending their reach into the Mackenzie Region.

In the spring of 2023, a group from Grande Prairie came to La Crete to share about the work they were doing and the families they were serving. That visit sparked something. People in the community began asking what it might look like to have a centre here. As those conversations grew, it became clear this wasn’t a new idea for everyone—the team from Grande Prairie shared that this had actually been on their hearts and in their prayers for a long time.

In January 2024, a small group of six or seven people met locally. There wasn’t a detailed plan yet—just open hearts and a willingness to listen, pray, and imagine what serving families in the Mackenzie Region could look like.
By mid-February, a steering committee had formed. These were people ready to step forward in faith, give their time, and begin building something meaningful from the ground up.

With continued support and guidance from the Grande Prairie Pregnancy Care Centre, those early months were a time of learning, growing, and trusting the process.
By the end of 2024, an official board was in place. Behind the scenes, they worked steadily—applying for charitable status, completing training through Pregnancy Care Canada, and preparing to serve families with care and excellence.

In 2025, things began to take root in the community. We became a registered non-profit, started connecting with people at local events, and invited others to be part of the journey through prayer and support. Awareness grew, and so did anticipation.

Then, in March 2026, we reached an important milestone:
Family First Resource Centre officially received charitable status.
This wasn’t just a legal step—it felt like a clear answer to prayer. It opened new doors for support and brought us closer to opening our own space.

Today, we have a board of 7 individuals. We’re continuing to prepare—training volunteers, looking for the right location, and welcoming others to join us as volunteers, supporters, and board members.
This story is still unfolding, and we’re grateful for every step that’s brought us here.

Looking Ahead

We believe this centre will be a place of hope.

A place where women feel safe.
Where families find support.
Where grief is met with compassion.
And where every life is valued.

As we move toward opening our doors, we continue to trust that God is building something meaningful—not just a centre, but a community of care.

And we would love for you to be part of that story.
